See saw

Hi.Today Ms.Krueger's class had fun in math stations and we did a see saw. A see saw is where you can take pictures or videos of what you did in math staitions. But today was different. We wrote talking scripts for our see saws so  they could be good and organized see saws. Today Ms.Krueger saw some really good scripts. Like, she saw scripts that showed a tip, and how you could use it in the real world!

Mystery Skype

This week, 5th graders are participating in "Mystery Skype"! I first heard about this on Twitter and was very excited to try it. In "Mystery Skype", classes from around the world play 20 questions to determine where the other class is in the world. They have to use maps, problem solving skills, and teamwork to find the location.

Last week, students practiced several times and were assigned jobs, such as questioner, mapper, Googler, etc. They thought of questions to ask, practiced working together, and realized problems that may come up.

Not only was it SO much fun, but we learned a lot! Today, we skyped with a class in Argentina, New Zealand, and California. The New Zealand kids had such trouble figuring out our state and we realized that not everyone knows the states or locations of cities in America.

One noticing the students said was how diverse a lot of the students in New Zealand and California were. The Argentina class assumed we were Europe at first and were excited to learn we were USA!

California proved to be the most difficult in terms of determining the city. I was very impressed with students creating questions such as "Is your population less than 500,000?" to narrow down the location. Shout out to McKenzie Brown and Haley Post for figuring out it was Palo Alto!

Math Talk

In math we are learning to use math talk. In math you have to use the math talk words such as I agree with you because... and to add to on... and lots more.
